Frequently Asked Questions

What is trichology?

Trichology is the science of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair. Clinical trichology is the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the human hair and scalp, including dandruff, hair loss and hair texture problems.

What happens during a trichology consultation?

Your face-to-face consultation includes a comprehensive medical and lifestyle assessment, a detailed hair and scalp examination using advanced digital trichoscopy, and a hair density and follicle assessment, helping us build a complete picture of your hair and scalp health and identify the most likely diagnosis.

Will I need blood tests?

If you have recent blood test results, we’ll review these during your consultation. If further investigation is needed, we’ll recommend the most appropriate blood tests to help identify any nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances or underlying medical conditions contributing to your hair concerns.

What could my treatment plan include?

Following your assessment you’ll receive tailored recommendations, which may include evidence-based home care advice, prescription treatment via our prescribing partners, nutritional and lifestyle guidance, supplement recommendations, Low Level Laser Therapy, PRP suitability, microneedling advice, and hair transplant or hair replacement advice where appropriate.

When will I get my results?

Within seven days of your consultation you’ll receive a detailed personalised trichology report covering your clinical findings, diagnosis (where appropriate), treatment recommendations and any recommended blood tests. This report can also be shared with your GP or other healthcare professionals.

What hair and scalp conditions do you treat?

We assess and support a wide range of conditions, including hair loss and thinning, hair texture problems, and scalp infections or infestations such as folliculitis and head lice, as well as female and male pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium, alopecia areata, seborrhoeic dermatitis and psoriasis.

What is the Fagron TrichoTest?

The Fagron TrichoTest is a genetic test that analyses gene variations and lifestyle factors to help personalise your hair loss treatment plan. It’s a simple, non-invasive test using a saliva swab, suitable for men and women of any age experiencing hair loss.

Why am I suddenly shedding more hair than usual?

Sudden, diffuse shedding can be a sign of telogen effluvium, often triggered around 12 weeks after restrictive dieting, illness or a high fever, when many hairs enter the resting phase at the same time. A trichology consultation can help identify what’s disrupting your hair growth cycle.
